Holiday Snap 2025 - Wells Art Contemporary

Natalia Chaplin's artwork Holiday Snap 2025 at the Wells Art Contemporary.

Wells Art Contemporary runs from 8 October to 1 November 2025 inside Wells Cathedral, Somerset and is the earliest English cathedral to be built entirely in the Gothic style. It is described by historians as "unquestionably one of the most beautiful" and "most poetic" of English cathedrals.

My artwork Holiday Snap 2025 was selected to hang among 93 artworks and installations exhibited within the cathedral.

Building of the cathedral began in 1175 and was largely completed by the mid-13th century. The interior is defined by soaring Early English Gothic proportions, medieval stained glass, and the famous scissor arches added in the 14th century to support the central tower.

The cathedral was designed to inspire awe: every proportion, every arch, every shaft of light through ancient glass was calculated to make the viewer feel something beyond the ordinary. Placing contemporary art inside that environment creates a conversation across centuries. The works don't compete with the architecture, they respond to it. Holiday Snap 2025 found its place in that conversation and I'm deeply honoured to have been selected.
