Music from the classical school above filled the street on our arrival to a diverse opening evening. Later, more and more guests mingled, their conversations punctuated by the haunting verses of a French poet. Experiencing Venice for the first time was other worldly. Even the rubbish men, with their boats laden with refuse, added to the city's unique charm.
